5 Things You Need to Know Today: Nov. 9, 2011

Here are five things to know as you start your day.

Good morning, Silver Spring! Here are five things to know this Wednesday, to help you keep up-to-date about what’s going on in the community:

1. Prepare for another foggy morning, according to the National Weather Service. Patches of fog are expected to be on the road before 8 a.m. Otherwise, it should be sunny throughout the day, with temperatures reaching a high near 66 degrees.

The evening should be mostly cloudy, with temperatures dropping to a low around 48 degrees.

2. If you missed it, Montgomery Blair High School created a hotline to help stay in touch with students.

3. Anyone is invited to attend this free informational workshop to learn about the value of long-term care insurance and how it can become an essential part of your total retirement strategy. The hour-long session starts at noon.

4. The first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System takes place this afternoon at 2 p.m. EST. Although original plans called for the test to be three minutes, it will be heard across the country for 30 seconds.

5. Coming up in Silver Spring Patch, Radio One officially moved their headquarters to downtown.
