5 Things You Need to Know Today: Sept. 12, 2011

Here are five things you need to know as you start your day.

Welcome to Monday, Silver Spring! Here are five things to know today, to help you keep up-to-date about what’s going on in the community:

1. After last week's "monsoon" rains, expect a mostly sunny day to start this new week... although there is still a chance of pop-up showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs will be in the low 80s with west winds at 5 - 10 mph. Tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a chance of storms continuing and lows in the 60s.

2. If you missed it, be sure to catch Patch's interview with renowned jazz keyboardist and Silver Spring resident Marcus Johnson, who headlined this weekend's Eighth Annual Silver Spring Jazz Fest. Stay tuned for more on the weekend's festivities.

3. Montgomery County's proposed Teen Curfew Law tops the agenda for Silver Spring's Citizens Advisory Board, meeting tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Silver Spring Civic Center.  The Advisory Board is to discuss the recently-amended proposal and make recommendations. The County Council will discuss the proposed law later this week, on Thursday, Sept. 15.

4."Macro Metamorphoses" photography exhibit is on display at The Tate Gallery, located inside . The show presents images by Silver Spring photographers Coriolana Simon and Douglas Wolters, who do extreme close-up photography, primarily of nature, to capture "easily identifiable everyday subjects–a rose, a dried leaf, the bark of a tree–and often transform them." The show is open daily at noon.
