Here are five things you need to know as you start your Thursday.

Happy Thursday, Silver Spring! Here are five things to know today, to help you keep up-to-date about what’s going on in the community:

1. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected today, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures may rise near 81 degrees. Into the evening, showers are likely to continue, with temperatures dropping to about 68.

2. Looking to further your financial security? Gateway Capitol Financial, an office of MetLife, hosts "Its Not Your Mother's Retirement" at the Silver Spring Civic Center. They can provide insurance, investment, and retirement services to help you or your business protect and maximize your assets. The event goes from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

3. If you missed it, Montgomery County Police arrested a Silver Spring teen for two robberies. Montgomery County Police arrested Jeremiah Jordan McLeod, 19, of Silver Spring for the Sept. 7 armed robbery of the Hollister Company store in the Westfield Wheaton shopping mall.

4. The Silver Spring Regional Center is helping to organize volunteers for this year's Thanksgiving Parade. Send an e-mail to the Regional Director, Reemberto Rodriguez or Susan Hoffman from the county's Recreation Department who is one of the parade's orginal creators.
