Architect Takes Creativity to New Levels

Meet a designer that's contributing his artistic talents throughout the county.

Jack of artistic trades, Geoffrey Uyehara--an architectural designer at Crest Design--not only redesigns residential properties, but uses his creative skill to make artisan craft pieces like the ones he sells at the Fenton Street market.

Having earned a Master of Architecture in 1993 at Catholic University, Uyehara says the time it takes for him to create his pieces can vary.

“Sometimes inspiration is a snap, sometimes it’s not,” said Uyehara.

Yet when he is working with a client, Uyehara says his vision is always collaborative.

“It’s what I see and how they envision the project. You have to listen to what they want and you figure out how to work your ideas with their ideas together so everyone is happy,” said Uyehara.

Uyehara started his design company in 2007 and has since helped Montgomery County residents with their home improvement projects. He even contributed his designs at the federal level when he helped design the front entrance to the visitor’s center at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis.

“It’s kind of artistic. I was able to do what I wanted to do completely, what I felt, what I believed,” Uyehara said about designing the entrance.

Uyehara will be sharing his thoughts on architecture and design during a session at the Fenton Street Market on September 3.
