Photo of the Day: 'Climate Riders' Take a Break in Silver Spring

Bicycle advocacy group on last leg of five-day trek from New York to DC, to call attention to green issues and raise funds.

A group of more than thirty Climate Ride bikers descended on downtown Silver Spring today, taking a lunch break on their way to DC and the U.S. Capitol building.

Climate Ride is a non-profit organization that organizes yearly bike rides to support and call attention to "green" causes--including sustainable energy solutions, environmental awareness, renewable energy, and bicycling itself, as a form of green transportation.

Today marks the end of the riders' 300-mile east coast trek, which began five days ago in New York city. Their journey wraps up at the U.S. Capitol, where each rider will meet individually with their Congressional representative.

Climate Ride holds two week-long biking events each year: an east coast ride from New York to DC; and a west coast ride in California. To participate in the event, each biker registers for $75 and agrees to fund-raise a minimum of $2,400. Proceeds go to a collection of environmental and bike-related non-profits.
