News in Review: County Executive Heads to India and Holiday Market Opens

This week we reported on how the superintendent is reading and discussing books for his book club, a new holiday market opening, on the struggle of by the state, crime and more.

1. The County Executive Isiah Leggett left for India Saturday. During the six-day trade mission he will pitch Montgomery County as the place for biotechnology as he accompanies Maryland delegation. 

2. After 'Operation Turkey Chase', an initiative to deter underage drinkers and impaired drivers, Montgomery County Police and Maryland State Police officials  stopped 265 vehicles on Wednesday.

3. Flower Avenue welcomed a new market for the holiday. Vendors displayed antiques, art, collectibles, furniture, gifts, jewelry, and treasures of all kinds. The market will go on through Saturday, Dec. 24.

4. County Council President Valerie Ervin encouraged local residents to support 2011 Small Business Saturday. It's a day to support the local businesses to promote job creation, boost the economy, and preserve neighborhoods around the country.
