News in Review: Silver Spring Man Arrested for Fraud and Deer Sharpshooters Approved

This week we reported on a Silver Spring man arrested for a $6.2 million fraud scheme, Colesville Road McDonald's remodels, new report that shows the state of Maryland behind in providing resources for quitting smokers, and crime.

1. Montgomery County Police arrested a 17-year-old-girl for stabbing a Montgomery Blair High School student after a football game. Briana Sarai Funes faces five charges including attempted homicide.

2. The Spring Garden Restaurant was robbed Saturday, Dec. 10. Two suspects confronted a man who closed the restaurant and was heading to his car. They made him get on the ground and threatened to kill him, according to police.

4. Montgomery County parks department approved a deer management program in Sligo Creek Stream Valley Park Golf Course. Parks wildlife ecology staff investigated deer densities in Sligo Creek Stream Valley Park between Route 29 and Arcola Avenue annually beginning in 2007.

At a recent Silver Spring Arts and Entertainement Committee meeting, Michael McBride--WMATA’s manager of MetroArts--was on hand to discuss the potential of art installation in public spaces and Fillmore Silver Spring's General manager Stephanie Steele gave a brief multimedia presentation about the history of the Fillmore brand.
