News in Review: Controversial Redistricting Plan Passes, Boy Falls from Window and Man Sentenced for Sex Trafficking of Minor

Here's round-up of the week's news in Silver Spring:
- The week began with news of a 911 call reporting a five-year-old boy had fallen from a third-floor window at a Silver Spring apartment complex. Teenagers made the call, after hearing the boy's cries while walking past the building. The boy was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
- Mid-week, the Maryland House of Delegates passed a controverial Congressional redistricting bill. The bill had drawn criticism from both Republicans and Democrats, who said it dilutes minority voting power and ignores geographical and political lines. Late week, the bill was signed into law by Governor O'Malley, but .
- Another controversial measure, the proposed teen curfew for Montgomery County, came up for debate by the Mid-County Board next door in Wheaton. The board voted to not yet take a position on the contentious proposal.
- Extra helicopters flew over Holy Cross Hospital and other Montgomery County hospitals on Wednesday, as they took part in a mock emergency drill. The exercise was set up to test how well regional hospitals respond and work together in a crisis situation such as a terrorist attack or a natural disaster. It was sponsored by county’s Office of Emergency Management, and Homeland Security.
- On Friday, a Silver Spring man was sentenced to 132 Months in prison for the sex trafficing of a minor. 31-year old Cooper Kweme as sentenced in District Court in Alexandria, VA for trafficking a juvenile female in connection with a prostitution business operated in Maryland, D.C. and Virginia, according to court documents. He reportedly met the 16-year-old on an online social network for teens.
- Also if you missed it, Patch announced its "Little Pumpkin Costume Challenge," a contest to find the kid with the most creative Halloween costume in America. Grand Prize is a three-day, two-night trip to New York or Los Angeles to meet celebrity judge Heidi Klum; plus a donation of $1,031 to the local charity of the winner's choice. It's not too late to enter--just upload a photo of your child (12 years of age or younger) in his or her Halloween costume, before 9 p.m. EST Halloween night (Oct. 31). Good luck!
