Silver Spring, Maryland  - According to the Merriam-Webster’s dictionary, the word expedition (ex•pe•di•tion noun ˌek-spə-ˈdi-shən) is defined as a journey especially by a group of people for a specific purpose.

On December 8, 2013, Glynn Jackson, the creator and founder of the coveted Golden Scissor Awards—the most anticipated hair and fashion event of the year—invites everyone on a trip to Africa with the 22nd Annual Golden Scissors Awards (HairAfrica – The Great Hair Expedition). This journey will take place at the Silver Spring Civic Center located in Silver Spring, Maryland, on 1 Veterans Plaza and will include three amazing shows.

The first show, Golden Scissors Kids, is a showcase and competition featuring amazing kids ages 3-17. All the clothes worn during this show will be donated to children in a third world country. Cash and prizes worth $1500 will be given away during this show ($1000/group and $500/individual). Doors open at 2:30 p.m.; the show starts at 3:00 p.m.

The Golden Scissors Awards, the second show, features the hottest salon/hair professionals in the world! You will sit on the edge of your seat as you witness hair history unfolding right before your eyes. Your favorite stylist who participated in the 2013 Bronner Brothers show in Atlanta, Georgia, has a chance to become the Bobbi Boss “America’s Next Top Stylist!” Voting is done online at www.bobbiboss.com and will end in October. The winner will be announced during this show. Beauty icons will also be honored, and over $5000 in cash and prizes will be given away. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.; the show starts at 6:00 p.m.

The third show, the Golden Scissors Consumer event, will feature four consumer-driven competitions (one stylist/one consumer): Bobbi Boss Weave Competition, Barber Total Look Competition, LockStar Competition, and Hair GaGa (avant garde/fantasy hair). Each winner will walk away with $1000! Doors open at 8:00 p.m.; the show starts at 8:30 p.m.

Glynn Jackson the Agency, along with Platinum sponsor human hair-extension manufacturer Bobbi Boss and Bronze sponsors hair care line ORS, formerly known as Organic Root Stimulator and weight loss specialists Decalo Weight Loss and Wellness, will transform downtown Silver Spring, Maryland, into an oasis of the African art of hair!

“This year we are paying homage to the African community for the massive contributions it has made to the hair and beauty industry,” Glynn Jackson, the owner of Glynn Jackson the Agency, said. “African culture has influenced so much of what we consider today to be 'popular culture' that we felt compelled to acknowledge this in a grand and over-the-top, historical way.”

“Hair is the very fabric that weaves our communities together, and even though we may be different, our similarities are evident through hair,” Jackson continued.

Admission into the first show is $30; admission into the second show is $50, and admission into the third show is $40. VIP tickets are $100 and include admission into all three shows and 2 VIP receptions (one before and one after all three shows).
