Young Artist Paints Across Cultural Diversity in South Silver Spring
It’s not easy getting started as a visual artist in Washington, but Ariel J. Klein of Silver Spring has jump started his career with a barter. The 23-year old 2012 graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art and Silver Spring native trades artwork for studio space on Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring near Montgomery College. He brings artwork to this thriving urban business hub alive with hair salons, markets and restaurants from Columbia, Ethiopia and Cameroon.
Now his neighbors are anticipating Klein's first solo show, "Following the Thin Woman." The exhibit that includes works from Madrid, Baltimore and Silver Spring, opens on July 27 and runs through August 18. For more information check out the artist's website at www.arieljklein.com
Here's what people are saying about Ariel J. Klein:
“Ariel’s paintings have echoes of Picasso. The use of color and form evokes powerful human emotion.” Rebecca Medrano, Executive Director GALA Hispanic Theatre
“Gestural, inventive, and bold – these are words that come to mind when thinking of the work of Ariel Klein.” Barry Nemett, Painting Department Chair, Maryland Institute College of Art
"A lineal synthesis with his figures, often barely sketched in strokes and dissections. His color, whether exploding from the background or receding, combines exquisitely with his figures. Xabier Egana, Basque regional painter
There is a playful humanistic approach with Ari’s work… In viewing, one can begin to lose their sense of self, as the images seem to exist more in a place of the subconscious.” Daniel Pouridas, Artistic Director, Bass Guitarist, Two Inch Astronaut
