SPEAKEASY SHORTS: STORYTELLING TWO WAYS

STORYTELLING TWO WAYS

For a second year, DC Shorts and SpeakeasyDC have
combined forces for the annual Speakeasy Shorts competition, a unique event that combines the art of storytelling with the craft of filmmaking in a two-weekend experience. Ten teams of filmmakers will be assigned to ten storytellers to create short films based on original stories, all shot and produced in the District.

On Friday, November 15, ten local storytellers will narrate their touching, funny, insightful and personal stories to an audience that includes seven filmmaking teams. At the end of the storytelling, the performers will be matched with their filmmaking crews to begin a 5-day production.

On Saturday, November 23, the audience will return to watch the ten eight minute films and vote for their favorite film, the film most closely interpreting the story told live, and the film that takes the most twist on the story. The top film team and storyteller will receive a $1,000 cash prize and additional monies will be awarded to winners of the other categories.
