Description:
Send your child to a magical world, where your child will be transformed
into the most famous artists from around the world! Your child will
have lots of fun learning how to use various techniques such as drawing
upside down to trick the brain to see the artwork differently. Your
child will develop their creativity with Vincent Van Gogh, and diverse
artists like Jacob Lawrence and Frida Khalo --the possibilities are
endless! Use many mediums including clay (regular and polymer), wood
items to build or paint, and more. Create works of art with watercolors,
acrylics, oil pastels, chalk and a variety of other materials and
experiment to create . Final artwork will be exhibited in Takoma Park.
The Master artists covered in this course are purposely chosen not only
for the cultural diversity that they bring but also for their various
art styles such as Sumi-e (Katsushika Hokusai, Japanese) ,
Realism/Surrealism (Frida Kahlo, Mexican), Dynamic Cubism (Jacob
Lawrence, African American), and Impressionism (Edgar Degas, French)
When not doing art during beforecare or aftercare hours, your child will
have fun doing traditional camp activities such as playing games
outdoors, gardening, and so much more!
Your child can camp two weeks, or all summer, and never make the same
thing twice! Bring a bag lunch, water, and a smock (a swimsuit and a
towel will be needed for pool days, and transportation fee for the field
trips).

About the Instructor:
Since I was four years old when my mother's friend showed me how to draw
a person sitting on a chair, I have been enraptured with visual art. I
mostly draw (anything from a portrait to cartoons), and paint. I studied
art throughout high school at Alexander W. Dreyfus School of the Arts ,
and also took several art courses at Mount Holyoke College.
I have searched for ways to share my artistic passion with others. In
Ghana during summer and fall of 2006 I taught art to children at Autism
Awareness Care and Training (AACT) a school for children with autism. I
speak French and sought to incorporate the language in an arts camp for
children that I created in the summer of 2010. In this arts camp, I also
introduced the children to the arts and crafts techniques of various
African and Asian francophone countries. The groups to which I teach
span from children to senior citizens.
Dance is my other artistic passion. I have studied West African dance
forms at Mount Holyoke College with Bamidele Dancers and Drummers, in
France with Une Touche d'Ebène (West African dance association), and in
Accra, Ghana. I have taught West African dance forms to various groups
including students at the Alliance Francaise in Washington, D.C., and
attendees at Northwest Community Church.
Curently, I live in Takoma Park and share my love of visual art and dance with my husband and my two girls.
