Speak Out: What Do You Want in Old Silver Spring Library

The Silver Spring Citizens Advisory Board is lobbying for an "intergenerational facility," the Washington Post reports.

What do you want to see in the old Silver Spring library building, once a new library opens at Fenton Street and Wayne Avenue?

The Silver Spring Citizens Advisory Board wants to turn the building into an "intergenerational facility," the Washington Post reports.

“The community has said that we really want an intergeneration center [at the library],” Evan Glass, chair of the advisory board, told the Post. “We want a place where youth can hang out and where seniors can go while they age in place — and we’re pretty adamant about that becoming the community rec center.”

The new library broke ground in August 2010. The second phase of building construction, which will take approximately 22 months, is expected to begin in November, according to Montgomery County's department of general services website. The library is expected to open by November 2014.
