Local Organizations Support Community During Thanksgiving Holiday

Charities help set the table with meals, gift cards, baskets, and more.

Silver Spring is home to many civic, social and religous organizations that help families and individuals in need throughout the year. The following groups are currently focusing their efforts on helping out during the Thanksgiving holiday:

will offer its 32 residents a traditional holiday meal provided and served by neighbors, church groups, and the county's department of health and human services employees. For those looking to still donate to a local cause, Carroll House is still looking for donations of pies and other desserts as well as drinks call. Interested parties should call Sarah at 301-587-7270.

plans to serve approximately 130 Thanksgiving dinner –from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. Turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, ham, yams, green beans, gravy and cranberry sauce will be available.

will be offering thanksgiving baskets containing non-perishable foods to serve 6 to 8 people, plus gift cards to local grocery stores to purchase a turkey or ham. You can still donate items from their wish list, as well as $10 to $20 gift card to Safeway or Giant. Call 240-687-9627 for more information on helping with A Wider Circle’s gift baskets, or the Montgomery County Holiday Giving Program.

will continue to keep Arleeta’s Pantry will open from 9 a.m.  to 11 a.m. at every Saturday through the holidays, offering those in need two full bags of a wide assortment non-perishable food items. On the second Tuesday of every month at Marvin Memorial, members of the community are invited to take advantage of the mobile food pantry, where they expect to distribute more than 5,000 pounds of fresh produce this holiday season.
