Get Out: Weekend Activities in Downtown

1. FILM FESTIVAL TALK CINEMA

Where/When: Join the film festival at The AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center, which is located on 8633 Colesville Road in Silver Spring on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 9:30 a.m.

Why go: After the movie you can walk five minutes over to Ellsworth Drive and have brunch or do some light shopping.

Pricing: $20 at door, $129 per person for each season subscription, and $10 for students with identification.

2. LATINO FESTIVAL IN DOWNTOWN

Where/When: Join the festivities on Silver Spring Plaza on Ellsworth Drive (near the fountain), Saturday Sept. 24 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Why go: It's a celebration of Latin American Heritage Month complete with live performances by regional Latin bands, vendors selling handicrafts from parts of Latin America, and Latin inspired foods.

Pricing: The event is free and open to all.

Where/When: On Friday, Sept. 23 and Saturday, Sept. 24 from 9:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. two bands are scheduled to rock the house! 

Why go: Join Crowded Streets on Saturday and Hand Painted Swingers on Sunday as they jam out 

Pricing: Free.

 Where/When: The beer and wine store is located on 1327 Fenwick Lane and the tasting is on Friday, Sept. 23 from 4:30 p.m.  to 7:30 p.m. 

Why go: Port City beer tasting, Friday Sept. 23, 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 pm. Port City is a new craft brewery located in Alexandria, Virginia.  

Pricing: Free

5. LAPS FOR LEXI IN SILVER SPRING

Where/When: On Saturday, Sept. 24 at 7 a.m. everyone associated with the run will meet at Sandy Spring Friends School, which is located on 16923 Norwood Rd, Sandy Spring, MD 20860. 

Why Go: Join friends, family and community in memory and honor of Lexi Speight, who passed away due to liver cancer at the age of 8. Laps for Lexi will help raise money for the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders to create the Lexi Speight Chair in Pediatric Oncology at Children's National Medical Center.

Pricing: $30.
