Guide to Upcoming Breast Cancer Awareness Events

Multiple events will be in the Washington, DC metro area to bring awareness to breast cancer.

Throughout the month of October businesses and organizations are set to host events to bring awareness to breast cancer. In Maryland, experts predict 4,850 new cases of breast cancer to be diagnosed this year.

There are many ways you can support in your community. Here are the following events closest to your area:

1. JOIN THE 'PARTY IN PINK' AT MONTGOMERY MALL

Location/Time: Saturday, Oct. 1, and Sunday, Oct. 2, at Westfield Montgomery mall, which is located at 7101 Democracy Boulevard near I-270 and I-495 in Bethesda. The events starts at 10 a.m.

Cost: The first 200 people to donate $10 to the American Cancer Society to the Westfield Concierge will receive a special gift bag, sweet treat and shopping pass to receive exclusive discounts at participating retailers.

2. MAKING STRIDES AGAINST BREAST CANCER

Location/Time: Sunday, Oct. 16, in Baltimore and Mt. Airy, MD.

Cost: Varies. You can donate to a team, an individual or in general.

3. TAKE A BITE OUT OF BREAST CANCER

Date/Time: Some places are participating for a day, week or all month.

Cost: Check with respective vendors throughout October.

4. HEALING IN HEALS

Date/Time: Sunday, Oct. 9, at 4 p.m. at Annapolis Towne Center, which is  located at 2505 Riva Rd., Annapolis, MD.

Cost: Register online. Advance entry fees are $25 or $30 on race day.

5. YOGA ON THE STEPS

Date/Time: Sunday, Oct. 16, at 8:30 a.m. on Freedom Plaza, located on Pennsylvania Avenue NW between 13th and 14th streets in Washington, DC.

Cost: If you want to participate in the class without fundraising, organizers would appreciate a $50 donation.
