Ringing in the New Year in Silver Spring

Your guide to the most unique New Year's Eve events in town.

Whether you're tired of watching Ryan Seacrest counting down to the new year from Times Square, or just want to take your significant other out for a night on the town, Silver Spring has a number of New Year's Eve parties, events and dinners with a wide range of themes.

We've done all the hard work, now all you need to do is pick a party and have a good (and safe!) time!

Old Year’s Night Masquerade Ball at the Silver Spring Civic Building

Where: One Veterans Place. It goes from 8 p.m. – 2 a.m.

Why: Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Trinidad and Tobago’s Independence  during “A Night of Fantasy,” sponsored by the Embassy of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. The event will feature culinary delicacies, beverages and entertainment from Trinidad and Tobago highlighted by a special celebratory toast at midnight.

Cost: $100 per person. Tickets are available online.

Where: 8656 Colesville Rd. It starts at 8 p.m.

Why: Rock in the new year with Little Feat at the area’s newest music venue, The Fillmore Silver Spring. Tickets are $55 per person. Doors are scheduled to open at 8 p.m. with a mystery opening act playing from 9 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. and headliners Little Feat jamming from 10 p.m. - 12:30 a.m. with a New Year's Eve countdown.

Cost: $55 per ticket. Tickets are available online.

Firestation-1 Restaurant

Where: 8131 Georgia Ave. It starts at 7 p.m.

Why: Firestation-1 has no-cover Happy Hour food and drink specials alongside music in the second story lounge from 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. plus a number of menu options in different price ranges, detailed on their Facebook page.

Cost: From $25 - $45.

Hollywood Ballroom

Where: 2126 Industrial Parkway. It starts at 7:30 p.m.

Why: DJ Steve Ferrara will play Top 40 music, as guests enjoy a menu featuring beef, chicken and pasta, plus beverages and a chocolate fountain for dessert. Semi-formal attire is required with dinner at 7:30 p.m., dancing beginning at 9 p.m. and a midnight toast.

Cost: $100 per person until December 30, $125 per person at the door. Tables of 10 are $700. You can purchase tickets in advance online, or call 301-622-5494 for more information.

Afrikmask NYE Masquerade at the Pashion Lounge

Where: 2310 Price Ave. It goes from 10 p.m. – 5 a.m.

Why: Hosted By Bianca Richardson from America’s Next Top Model, the Afrikmask NYE Masquerade features DJs Ste-Cool, Yveco and Tag Soundz, with a Moet champagne toast at midnight. Cocktail attire is required.

Cost: $30 in advance, $40 at the door.

Where: 1800 Glenallen Ave. It goes from 5 p.m. – 10 p.m.

Why: Enjoy the popular Garden of Lights one last time in 2011! Crafts and music in the Visitor’s Center round out the entertainment at this family-friendly New Year's Eve event.

Cost: $25
