Plenty to do in Montgomery Parks over Veteran's Day Weekend!

-Free ice skating and rentals at Cabin John and Wheaton Ice for military families.-

SILVER SPRING, MD—In honor of Veteran’s Day, Montgomery Parks, part of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) is offering free ice skating and rentals (during public sessions) on Sunday, November 10, for all active and retired military personnel and their families at Cabin John and Wheaton Ice. A special patriotic skating show will be presented at Cabin John Ice during the 12:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. skating sessions on that day.  Public sessions are scheduled for the following times:

• Cabin John Ice: 8:30 – 10 a.m.; 12:30 – 2:30 p.m., 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.
• Wheaton Ice: 11a.m. – 12:45 p.m.; 2:45 – 4:45 p.m.

Montgomery Parks has a variety of fun, affordable activities lined up at various parks and facilities during the Veteran’s Day holiday weekend including:

• Sat. Nov. 9: Locust Grove Cider Days at Locust Grove Nature Center

Enjoy a mini festival to celebrate the apple! Learn about cider, apple varieties and apple history. Go on a scavenger hunt for apple facts, sample lesser known apple types and try your hand at pressing cider. www.ParkPASS.org (Course#: 246700)

• Sat., Nov. 9: Feeding our Fine-Feathered Friends at Brookside Nature Center

Join Montgomery Parks staff for a tour of the bird feeding stations; learn which feeders are likely to attract which kinds of birds; and the best kind of food for different kinds of birds.  www.ParkPASS.org (Course#: 247500)

• Sat., Nov. 9 and Sun. Nov. 10: Tennis Round Robin Doubles at Wheaton Indoor Tennis

Test your tennis prowess, meet new people and have fun. Up to three pro sets (8 games per set). No need to bring a partner, players will be matched up with peers of comparable skill. Two skill levels offered. www.ParkPASS.org (Course#: 245721 level 3.0 and above; Course 245738 level 3.5 and above)

• Mon., November 11: A Birding Trip to Prime Hook Wildlife Refuge leaving Black Hill Visitor Center at 9 a.m. and returning at 8 p.m. The trip to the Delaware wildlife refuge will be led by a Montgomery Parks Naturalist. Visit www.ParkPASS.org (Course #247859) for more details and to register.
