Trees Matter Symposium: November 20 at Silver Spring Civic Center

Learn about why trees are so important from some of the country's leading tree experts. This day long symposium at the Silver Spring Civic Center will feature sessions on many different topics about planting, protecting and preserving trees.

SILVER SPRING, MDMontgomery Parks, part of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission will convene the country’s leading tree experts for the 2013 Trees Matter Symposium on November 20, 2013 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Silver Spring Civic Building. The day will feature a series of discussions on innovative efforts to plant, protect and preserve trees in urban and suburban settings. Admission is $79.

 

WHO:             Tree experts from around the country specializing in various aspects of trees including:

WHAT:          The 2nd Annual Trees Matter Symposium will convene experts from around the country to discuss the latest research on trees. Session topics include:

·       “How to Create a Successful Botanic Garden,”

·       “Veteran Tree Care: Retrenching Hollow Trees for Life,”

·       “Trees are for the Birds,”

·       “Trees as part of the Storm Water Solution,”

·       “Pay it Forward,” – the relationship between our planet, the climate an the forests.

WHY:            Trees are invaluable; they cleanse and cool our air, stabilize our soils, provide wildlife habitat and beautify our urban and suburban streets. With this in mind, we must do all we can to ensure their survival in our built environment.  Experts will shed light on innovative ways we can plant, protect and preserve trees in urban and suburban settings.
