To celebrate the opening of our Winter Programs and Classes, Montgomery Parks is hosting its first "Come Play in the Parks" Facebook Sweepstakes. Just like Montgomery Parks Facebook page for a chance to win a $100 Montgomery Parks' Gift Card. 

SILVER SPRING, MDMontgomery Parks, part of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, has hundreds of great classes, programs and special events lined up this winter promoting an active, healthy lifestyle. All of the offerings are outlined in the Winter 2013 – 14 Program Guide.

Whether you’re looking to reconnect with nature, sharpen your ice skating skills or spend time with your family at a Nature Center campfire or hike, you’re likely to find something that’s just right from our winter line-up. And to entice you even further, we are giving away a $100 Parks Gift Card (that can be used towards classes, programs and special events) in our “Come Play in the Parks” Facebook Sweepstakes. Here are just a few examples of what the $100 can be used towards:

  • Children’s Programs: Nature storytimes and classes, tyke hikes, scavenger hunts, nature-themed crafts, campfires and more
  • Adult Programs:
  • Cooking classes on “Season-Spanning Soups,” and “Seasonal Sides”(featuring vegetarian, vegan and dairy-free recipes)
  • Botanical fine arts and crafts classes, including “Calligraphy for Botanicals,” “Shading Basics,” and “Holiday Centerpiece”
  • Nature courses including: “Winter Birding at Black Hill,” “Trees in Winter,” and Wild Montgomery programs such as hikes on the C&O Canal towpath and the Seneca Creek Greenway trail.
  • Skating, Tennis and Golf Lessons: for all ages and abilities
  • Park Activity Building and Party Room Rentals: Reserve a Park Activity Building, party room (at the ice rinks and train stations) or even a couple of indoor tennis courts for your next party or special occasion. The four Parks Nature Centers offer special nature-themed party packages as well.
  • Park Play Days: When schools are off, Park Play Days are on. Kids ages 6 – 12 will enjoy full days of activities including ice skating, arts & crafts, and team games and sports.
  • Special Events: Winter Solstice Celebrations, the Annual Maple Sugar Festival, and the Garden of Lights Winter Walk-through Holiday Light Display.
