Silver Spring Cab Driver Says Woman Robbed Him at Knifepoint

Police are looking for leads on a woman who stole money and credit cards from the victim.

A Barwood cab driver told police that he picked up a young woman outside of Baja Fresh in downtown Silver Spring around 6:20 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, and that she robbed him at knifepoint of his personal and business cash, credit cards and forced him to withdraw an undisclosed amount of money from a nearby ATM.

The driver told Montgomery County police that the woman asked to be driven to Starbucks on East-West Highway, but told him that she needed money and asked him to stop at Capital One Bank on Georgia Avenue, less than half-mile from the pickup location.

Once the driver got to the bank, the suspect pulled out a 12-inch knife and demanded the cab driver's money and credit cards, which he gave her, police said.

The woman walked with the driver to the ATM, still holding the knife and asked for the driver's bank card personal identification number.

"The suspect put the victim’s bank card in the ATM and chose to withdraw a dollar amount--the driver pressed cancel to end the transaction," police wrote in a statment. "The suspect then entered a lower dollar amount and the cab driver again pressed cancel. The suspect then entered a third (even lower) amount and the driver did not press cancel."
