Christmas Morning Gunshots Heard Outside Hotel

Police spent Christmas morning looking for evidence of the shots outside a hotel in downtown Silver Spring.

Pre-dawn gunshots heard outside the Silver Spring Days Inn on Christmas morning summoned police and detectives, but they found only shell casings in the street, Montgomery County Police Department Capt. Jim Daly told Patch.

"We don't have any reports of anyone being shot or injured," Daly said. Police checked local hospitals, looking for anyone who might have been injured by the shots but did not find anyone who might fit that description, he added.

Police also did not find any property that had been damaged by the shots, Daly added.

Police detained several people in the area, and made three arrests for weapons violations, but the violations were not related to the Christmas morning shots and shell casings, Daly said.

Detectives and members of the police department's forensics team spent the morning outside the Days Inn at 8040 13th St. gathering evidence, but as of 1 p.m. Wednesday, the only evidence that they had found of the early morning gunshots was the collection of shell casings, Daly said.
