Montgomery County Police Increase Traffic Patrols, Sobriety Checkpoints On New Year's Eve

State police have also increased patrol efforts for the holiday.

In connection with what has been called Montgomery County police will amp up traffic patrols for New Year’s festivities.

Residents will see an increased police presence on roads, as well as sobriety checkpoints throughout the county beginning at 8 p.m. and lasting through 6 a.m. Jan. 1.

“Task force members will be watchful for aggressive and impaired drivers,” police said in a press release. “There will also be officers who are certified as drug recognition experts to aid in apprehending drug-impaired drivers.”

New Year's patrols come in addition to the 2012 Holiday Alcohol Enforcement Task Force campaign, which focuses police efforts on stopping impaired driving and traffic enforcement during the holiday season, beginning Nov. 16 and ending Jan. 5.

In addition to county police efforts, more state troopers will be on the roads now through New Year’s Day.

To save yourself the consequences of a DUI arrest, consider alternative methods of getting home from your New Year’s Eve fun. Multiple taxi services will offer free or reduced cab far through the evening as part of the Sober Ride program, and Metro services will run on an extended schedule.
