Crime Watch Silver Spring: Jan. 16 to Jan. 24, 2012

Keep a tab on the crime in the neighborhood of downtown Silver Spring and the surrounding area. During the week of Jan. 16 to Jan. 24, Montgomery County Police had their hands full with robberies, residential burglaries, vehicle thefts and more.

Residential Burglaries:

10000 block of Lorain Avenue: On Tuesday, Jan. 17 between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. There was an unforced entry and property was taken.

1100 block of East West Highway: On Tuesday, Jan. 24 between 9:25 a.m. and 6 p.m. There was a forced entry and property was taken.

500 block of Thayer Avenue: On Wednesday, Jan. 18 between 12:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. There was a forced entry but nothing was taken.

13100 block of New Hampshire Avenue: On Saturday, Jan. 21 at 1:29 a.m. There was a forced entry and property was taken. Police arrested a 55-year-old man from Ft. Washington.

300 block of Springbrook Drive: It occurred during an unknown date and time of a reported forced entry. Property was taken. Police arrested a 55-year-old man from Ft. Washington.

400 block of Willington Drive: It occurred during unknown date and time. There was a forced entry and property was taken. A 19-year-old woman from Burtonsville was arrested.

Aggravated Assaults: 

Post Office located at 8608 Second Ave.: On Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 2:57 p.m. The suspect threatened the victim with a weapon.

900 block of Ellsworth Drive: On Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 10:15 p.m.  The suspects threatened the victim with a weapon.

Thefts from Vehicles:

Some residents in the Forest Glen neighborhood on Greeley Avenue, Crestridge Drive, Flora Lane, Dublin Drive, Riley Road and Dexter Avenue experienced six thefts (in total) from vehicles between Monday, Jan. 16 and Friday, Jan. 20.

Stolen items included: cash, GPS systems, credit cards, and a wallet. In most instances, the vehicle was unlocked.

Police arrested an 18-year-old man and a 20-year-old man from Washington, D.C including a 15-year-old juvenile from Temple Hills, MD for the thefts.

Strong Armed-Robberies:

400 block Gilmoure Drive: On Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 1:17 p.m. The suspects assaulted the victim and obtained property. 

Franklin Avenue and University Boulevard: On Saturday, Jan. 21 at 3:30 a.m. The suspects assaulted the victim and removed property.

Commercial Robberies:

Days Inn located on 8040 13th Street: On Sunday, Jan. 22 at 2:45 a.m.  The suspect assaulted the victim and obtained property.

The Boost Mobile located on 627 University Blvd. E : On Friday, Jan. 20 at 5:48 p.m. a commercial robbery occurred. The suspects threatened the victims with a weapon and obtained property.
