Holocaust Survivor, 91, Struck, Killed by School Bus in Silver Spring

School bus was from Howard County, and was headed back to school after a field trip.

An elderly man who was struck and killed by a school bus in Silver Spring Wednesday was a survivor of the Holocaust originally from Poland, according to Montgomery County police and an oral history from the Holocaust Museum.

The man, Elia Miranski, 91, was taken to a local hospital where he later died. He was crossing the street using his walker. Police say he lived nearby.

Police had shut down the roadway where the incident took place — northbound Columbia Pike at Tech Road.

The school bus was from a Howard County school and was returning to the school after a field trip with 14 students on board, and two chaperones, according to police. None of the students or driver were hurt, according to police.

Roadways may have been slippery after a morning snowfall.
