Fatal Beltway Accident Near Silver Spring

Police say alcohol may have played a role in accident.

 

An accident on the inner loop of the beltway that left one person dead and sent others to local hospitals Wednesday night is being investigated by Maryland State Police.

The accident occurred between the Colesville Road and Georgia Avenue exits.

An initial investigation found that a passenger vehicle struck another passenger vehicle that had stopped on the right shoulder of the roadway, police said. Officers said three people were standing outside of the parked car and one was sitting inside when the accident occurred.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue (MCFR) was dispatched to the accident around 10:30 p.m., MCFR Spokesman Capt. Oscar Garcia said.

Garcia said when the rescue team arrived it evaluated five people on the scene and eventually transported four to local hospitals. The fifth person signed a release and didn’t want to be transported.

On person was transported to a hospital that specializes in trauma patients for life-threatening injuries, he said.

The identification of the person who died won’t be release until family members are notified. Although the Montgomery County Police Department assisted with the investigation, Blanca King, a MCP spokesperson, deferred all inquiries to the Maryland State Police.
