Update: Fatal Car Accident on Piney Branch; Two Dead

Montgomery County Police are currently investigating the cause, police said.

Montgomery County Police confirm the identity of the front passenger of the Black Toyota Corolla to be Sylvia Clarice Taiko Reiff, 23, from the 10300
block of Royal Road in Silver Spring.

She was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said.

As the investigation continues, The Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstructive Unit ask that anyone with information about the fatal collision to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 301-840-2435.

Police are investigating a fatal car accident in Silver Spring that claimed the lives of two residents.

According to Montgomery County Police, two cars collided on Thursday afternoon at about 12:27 p.m. A driver in a black 2006 Toyota Corolla was traveling eastbound in the 9300 block of Piney Branch Road and for some unknown reason crossed the center of the roadway hitting a black 1995 Ford tow truck that was traveling westbound on Piney Branch Road.

The impact of the accident immediately took the life of a 23-year-old female sitting in the passenger seat of the Toyota Corolla, police said. The female passenger is not being identified until her family is notified.

The driver of the Toyota Corolla is identified as 26-year-old Olin Dale Sorenson. Sorenson was transported to MedStar Washington Hospital Center and succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. 

The tow-truck driver, 51-year-old Melesio J. Monterroza Cartagena, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstructive Unit is investigating the cause of the accident and ask that anyone who witnessed the fatal collision to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 301-840-2435.
