To avoid hitting a Ride On bus, the driver left the road and overturned in an embankment.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. on June 10, Montgomery County Police and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue responded to the 8600 block of 16th Street in Silver Spring for a personal injury collision involving a passenger vehicle, according to a police media release.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a white 2001 Honda Accord was traveling on 16th Street towards Washington, D.C., police said. At the time of the collision, a Ride On bus was picking up a passenger at the bus stop in front of 8600 16th Street.

The driver, in an attempt to avoid colliding with the bus, left the right side of the roadway and struck a fire hydrant, a street sign and the curb and overturned before coming to rest in an embankment on the side of the road, police said. The vehicle did not hit the bus; no one on the bus was injured.

The driver of the vehicle, who was the sole occupant, was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. The driver died at the scene, police said.

The identity of the driver is not being released at this time so that next of kin can be notified, police said.
