Fire Damages 20 Apartments Near Silver Spring

A fire on the Chevy Chase-Silver Spring border damaged about 20 apartment units and injured one firefighter.

 

A fire near the Chevy Chase-Silver Spring border Tuesday afternoon damaged about 20 apartments and seriously injured one firefighter, according to Chief Scott Graham of the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service.

Around 2 p.m., a large fire originating in the attic of a two-story garden apartment building threatened nearby residential buildings in the 2800 block of Terrace Drive.

"Commanders decided to take a defensive attack," Graham said, in order to put out the fire.

One firefighter was injured, he said, and was transported to a local trauma center with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

No residents were injured, Graham added, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
