Fire Displaces Three Families in Silver Spring

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to Montgomery County fire officials.

Three Silver Spring families living in the Foxhall Apartment complex will have to find a new home after an early morning fire Thursday, a fire official said.

When firefighters arrived on the scene about 7 a.m., the fire had blazed through the top floor and roof of the apartment complex, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesman Capt. Oscar Garcia said.

One resident was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and several other residents were evaluated on the scene, Garcia said.

Three apartments in the complex—located at 8708 Barron St.—have been declared uninhabitable and unsafe, and the building sustained $35,000 in damages, he said.

The American Red Cross is helping to place the families in homes. The Red Cross may try to place the families in two vacant apartments in the complex, Garcia said.
