Firefighter for Two Departments Killed in Motorcycle Crash

Garrett Greene, a career firefighter for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service and a volunteer firefighter in Kentland in Prince George's County, was killed in a motorcycle accident.

A firefighter for Montgomery County and Prince George’s County was killed Thursday when his motorcycle collided with a car that overturned and landed on top of him.

The crash near Mitchellville Plaza in Prince George's County killed Garrett A. Greene, 24, reports WJLA TV.

According to Maryland State police, the driver of a gold Ford Fusion was turning left onto westbound Route 214 and crossed directly in front of Greene's motorcycle. Police said Greene was unable to avoid the collision.

The force of the crash tipped the car over, trapping the driver inside, and the vehicle landed on top of Greene and his motorcycle, police said.

The driver of the Ford was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries; Greene was pronounced dead at the scene.

Greene was a career firefighter for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service and a volunteer firefighter in Kentland in Prince George's County, the TV station reported.

"The sudden loss of a young life is tragic," Mark Brady of the Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department told WJLA.

The Montgomery County Fire Department Tweeted: “Thoughts & prayers continue to be w/family, friends, & shift mates of FF Garrett Greene who died in off-duty accident.”

Black bunting in mourning for Greene has been put up at the Montgomery County fire station where he worked, and flags are being flown at half-staff at the Kentland fire station in tribute Friday.
