Holy Cross Hospital Cleans Up After Fire

The fire broke out around 11:15 p.m. Thursday.

Update, 5 p.m.: Crews are still working to clean up water damage after a mechanical device sent smoke through the third floor of Holy Cross Hospital Thursday evening, said Yolanda Gaskins, the spokeswoman for Holy Cross Hospital.

The smoke caused hospital officials to evacuate 12 high-risk pregnant women out of their rooms for a short amount of time, Gaskins added.

Hospital officials also had to close one bank of elevators and the laundry room after they were immersed in water. The crews are working to clean up water damage in the gift shop and throughout the building.

There were no injuries reported, and the hospital is running their clinical operations as usual, Gaskins said.

Orignal Post, 6 a.m.: No injuries are being reported from a fire that broke out at Holy Cross Hospital Thursday evening, according to WJLA News.

The fire started in a first-floor mechanical shaft around 11:15 p.m. Thursday. It spread to the third floor through the duct system, said Montgomery County Fire Chief Scott Graham.

About 100 firefighters responded and helped extinguish the flames in about 20 minutes.
