Gas Leak Forced Officials to Evacuate Residents on Thayer Avenue

A few residents were home during the time officials tried to notify them.

Contractors were working on the 700 block of Thayer Avenue and ruptured a gas line, causing fire officials to evacuate some residents in the area, said Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Spokesman Oscar Garcia.

Around 11:40 a.m. fire officials were notified of the leak and upon arriving on the scene took precaution and went door-to-door asking residents to leave their homes, but barely any were home, he added.

Thayer Avenue, between Grove Street and Notle Avenue, is shutdown and police officials are on the scene redirecting traffic, said Garcia.
