House Fire Leaves 2 Firefighters Injured, $150K Total Damage

A house fire in Damascus early Tuesday morning that left two firefighters with minor injuries has been ruled as accidental.

Montgomery County firefighters were called to the home in the 24421 block of Ridge Road, Damascus, around 3 a.m., WJLA-TV reports.

Fire and Rescue Spokesman Pete Piringer said the fire began in the garage and spread to the rest of the home, according to Montgomery Community Media.

Piringer tweeted an update at 6:45 a.m. saying “24221 Ridge Rd, Damascus - 2 minor FF injury; Family of 6 & 2 dogs displaced: DAMAGE, $150K, incl vehicle; CAUSE, accidental.”

WJLA-TV reports one of the injured firefighters may have suffered heat exhaustion. The other was treated for a possible ankle injury.

The family of six were woken by the fire alarms and two dogs barking, according to WJLA-TV. The entire family was evacuated without injury and is now working with the Red Cross assistance.
