Is Your Real Estate Agent Going Through Your Stuff?

A Silver Spring real estate agent has reportedly been charged with burglary.

You hire a real estate agent to help sell your home and then you hand over the keys. Would a real estate professional help him or herself to some of your things?

A homeowner in Arlington, VA, may have recently found out when a camera captured an agent rummaging through and taking some items from a drawer of women’s clothing, according to The Washington Post.

Stephen Brumme, 60, of Silver Spring, was charged in Arlington County with burglary and possession of a burglar’s tools. Arlington police said Brumme’s real estate license was immediately suspended.

The video, which was posted online by ARLnow.com, appears to show a man speaking with a potential buyer while perusing the contents of a dresser drawer and stuffing an item in his back pocket. He leaves the room, but returns and looks at a few items hanging behind the bathroom door.

Arlington police welcome calls from other home-sellers who believe they may have been similarly victimized, at 703-228-4372.
