An 18-year-old Silver Spring man was arrested Monday for a carjacking that occurred earlier that day in a 16th Street parking garage, Montgomery County police said Wednesday. Police are still searching for a second suspect.

Jamall H. Thorton, of the 3300 block of Hewitt Avenue in Silver Spring, was charged with carjacking, robbery and other related charges, according to a police news release.

The 84-year-old carjacking victim was opening his black Lincoln Town Car around 3 p.m. when two men approached him and demanded his keys, police said. One of the men grabbed the victim and pinned him against the vehicle while the other man grabbed the keys out of the victim's hands. The two men then got into the car and left the garage, exiting onto 16th Street, police said.

Around 9:45 p.m., a 4th District plain-clothes officer observed a black Lincoln Town car near Bel Pre Road in Aspen Hill, police said. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled from the vehicle. The driver, later identified as Thorton, was the only one in the car. Officers searched for Thorton and at midnight, he was arrested after a brief foot pursuit near Connecticut Avenue and Georgia Avenue.

The second suspect involved in the carjacking has not been identified. He is described as a black male with a light complexion, age 20 to 25, 5 feet 9 inches, with slim build.

Anyone with information about the second suspect can call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070. Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) or leave a Crime Solvers tip here.
