Man Dies From Silver Spring Apartment Fire

A 63-year-old was severely burned before rescued Tuesday morning.

A 63-year-old man has died from severe burns received in an apartment building fire in Silver Spring Tuesday morning, according to a Montgomery County Fire and Rescue report. 

Edward Mager, of Silver Spring, was one of several residents of Montgomery Towers, at 415 Silver Spring Ave., rescued from the fire just before 7 a.m. on April 2, fire officials said. Firefighters found Mager unconscious outside of his apartment in the hallway on the sixth floor.

The exact number of residents rescued was unknown, according to fire officials, but a 6-year-old child was among the number of people sent to local hospitals Tuesday. The condition of the residents was not known, according to the report.

The fire started inside of an apartment on the top floor, the report stated, with damages estimated at $400,000. 

Mager is the second person in Montgomery County to die from fire this year. Katherine Elizabeth McNeal, 67, of Silver Spring, died Feb. 9 after her kitchen caught fire and she was burned.
