County Preapproves Construction Companies for Silver Spring Library

Library is scheduled to open in November 2014.

Although a new construction company hasn’t been chosen for the $60 million Silver Spring Library project, nine companies have been prequalified to make a bid.

The Montgomery County Department General Services Office of Procurement reviewed the background and experience of the following companies that submitted expressions of interest on the project: The Donohoe Companies, Clark Construction Group, Costello Construction, Hess Construction & Engineering Services, Morgan-Keller, Dustin Construction, Coakley & Williams Construction, and Grunley Construction Co.

The companies won’t be able to make a bid until after the library’s final design is approved, Director of General Services David Dise said.

“Once we have [the] permits we issue an invitation for bid to the prequalified contractors,” he said. “At that point it’s the low bid that wins.”

The contractor building the new Silver Spring Library should be announced in October and construction should begin shortly after, Dise said.
