Pedestrian Struck by Tractor Trailer in Silver Spring

Victim sustains severe leg injuries.

 

Montgomery County Police are investigating an accident in which a pedestrian was hit by a tractor-trailer around 6 p.m. Sunday evening.

An initial investigation revealed Washington, D.C., resident Denise Eidem, 66, was walking southbound on Georgia Avenue and Colesville Road against the “Don’t Walk” sign. The tractor-trailer was making a turn on the green arrow at the same time, police said.

For unknown reasons, Eidem paused in the median and when she continued walking she was struck by two of the four double-rear wheels. The impact knocked her to the ground and severely injured her legs.

The Florida truck driver, Jose Antonio Arguelles, 45, felt the impact and immediately stopped his vehicle, which prevented further serious injury to the victim, police said.

Arguellas was declared not at fault for the accident, according to police officials.

The woman was transported to MedStar Washington Hospital Center for treatment.
