Police Blotter: Summary of Crimes In Week of Aug. 30 to Sept. 7

Car Thefts, business and resident burglaries were a major part of police duty this week.

This week in the Montgomery County Police major crimes for the week summary in Silver Spring, commercial burglaries along with residential and car thefts dominate the report. Crimes report for the week of August 30th –September 7th are as follows: 

  • At 1 Discovery Place, an aggravated assault took place at Discovery Communications Headquarters, on Wednesday, 9/1. The suspect entered the building armed with a gun and explosives and held three employees hostage for five hours. He was shot and killed by officers on the scene.
  • On Ellsworth Drive, a strong-arm robbery occurred on Sunday, 9/5. The suspects approached the victim and forcefully took personal property before fleeing in a vehicle. A suspect was arrested after his vehicle was involved in a collision.
  • In Silver Spring, many residential burglaries occurred on Saturday evening, 9/4 by the same suspect. The suspect entered an unlocked front door in the 10000 block of Gardner Avenue and the home owner noticed the suspect and removed him from the house. They then attempted to enter two additional homes in the 10100 block of Gates Drive and the 2500 block of Holman Avenue, but was unsuccessful. Patrol responded to the area and arrested a 20 year-old young man.
  • There were multiple thefts from vehicles between Thursday, 9/2 and Tuesday, 9/7 in this Silver Spring/Takoma Park beat. A total of seven vehicles were broken into on 8500 block of Bradford and Piney Branch Road, and Kimes Street and Houston Avenue. Police stopped four suspects in the area ranging between the ages of 14 and 20. The Items targeted included GPS systems, computers, clothing, tools and personal documents.
  • On Ellsworth Drive, a strong-arm robbery occurred on Sunday, 9/5. The suspects approached the victim and forcefully took personal property before fleeing in a vehicle. A suspect was arrested after his vehicle was involved in a collision.
  • Additional residential burglaries occurred on 13100 block of Brahms Terrace, Silver Spring, 13100 block of Brahms Terrace, Silver Spring, 15500 block of Aitcheson Lane, Burtonsville, 11300 block of Columbia Pike, Silver Spring, 800 block of Brantford Avenue, Silver Spring and 13200 block of Betty Lane, Colesville.
