Police Blotter: Summary of Crimes the Week of Feb. 14 to Feb. 22

Residential burglaries and robberies were a major part of police duty.

In the Montgomery County Police major crimes weekly summary for the downtown Silver Spring area, robberies and residential burglaries dominate the report. The crime report for the week of Feb. 14-Feb. 22 is as follows: 

  • In downtown Silver Spring the crime activity varied in the Patch crime summaries map.
  • Colesville Road & Fenton Street: An officer-involved shooting occurred in this block on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 5:14 p.m. The Montgomery County Police officer was summonsed by mall security officers to assist with a suspect who had assaulted a security supervisor. The suspect was armed with an ice pick. The suspect made threatening statements and refused to comply with the officer’s commands to drop the weapon. After a brief standoff, the suspect was fatally shot by the officer.
  • 500 Easley Street: An attempted strong-arm robbery/assault occurred in this block on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 10:00 p.m. The suspect approached the victim and demanded money. When the victim refused, the suspect assaulted him. After a brief struggle, the suspect fled on foot.  
  • Georgia Avenue & White Oak Drive: A robbery occurred in this area on Monday, Feb. 21 at 11:35 p.m.The adult male victim was approached by unknown suspects who assaulted him and took his cash.  
  • 9100 Linton Street: A residential burglary occurred in this block on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 5:15 p.m. There was a forced entry but nothing was taken.  
  • Multiple thefts from vehicles on Spring Street, Ellsworth Drive, Cameron Street, Fenton Street and 16th Street: They occurred between Monday, Feb. 14 and Monday Feb. 21 in this Silver Spring beat.  Nine vehicles were broken into, including seven at commercial/county parking garages.   Windows were broken in five of the incidents and in the others, doors were left unlocked. Cell phones and GPS systems, CD’s and handicap placards were taken. The times of the incidents varied.
