Police Blotter: Summary of Crimes the Week of Feb. 7 to Feb. 16

Residential, robberies, vehicle theft and commercial burglaries were a major part of police duty.

In the Montgomery County Police major crimes weekly summary for the downtown Silver Spring area, vehicle theft, robberies, residential and commercial burglaries dominate the report. The crime report for the week of Feb 7-Feb. 16 is as follows: 

  • In downtown Silver Spring the crime activity varied in the Patch crime summaries map.
  • 600 Silver Spring Avenue: An armed robbery occurred in this block on Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 5:00 p.m.  Personal property was taken from the juvenile male victim by a suspect armed with a knife. The suspect fled on foot.
  • Construction site for Power Design Construction, 8025 13th Street: Two commercial burglaries occurred at the same construction site  between Friday, Feb. 4 and Saturday, Feb. 12.  In both incidents, there was a forced entry and property was taken.
  • 500 Thayer Avenue: A residential burglary occurred in this block on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 4:48 p.m.  There was no entry to the residence was gained, but keys left in the door were taken.
  • Wayne Ave., Ellsworth Dr., Bonifant St., Cameron St., Fenton St. and a residential parking lot on 16th St.:  Eight thefts from vehicles occurred between Monday, Feb. 7 and Monday, Feb. 14 in this Silver Spring beat. All vehicles were broken into, including seven at commercial/county parking garages. The times of the incidents varied.  A homeless suspect was arrested on Wednesday, Feb. 9 after security observed him breaking into two vehicles in the garage at Cameron Street.  Windows were broken in five of the incidents; clothing, tools, cell phones and GPS systems were taken.
  • 1600 Belvedere Boulevard: A residential burglary occurred in this block on Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 1:44 p.m. There was an unknown means of entry and it's unknown if anything was taken.
  • 9000 Bradford Road: A residential burglary occurred in this block on Tuesday, Feb. 8 between 7:45 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. There was a forced entry and property was taken.
  • 1000 Quebec Terrace: A robbery/kidnapping/assault occurred in this block on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 10:00 p.m. The suspects drove alongside the adult male victim; one displayed a gun. Personal property was taken from the victim.
  • 800 Heron Drive: An attempted residential burglary occurred in this block on Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 12:10 p.m.  There was an attempted forced entry but none was gained.
  • 600 Northampton Drive: A robbery occurred in this block on Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 12:59 a.m. The suspect approached the adult victim, displayed an assault weapon and forced the victim to the ground.  The suspect took personal property and fled in the listed vehicle.
