Police Blotter: Summary of Crimes the Week of July 11 to July 19

Commercial burglaries and vehicle thefts were a major part of police duty.

In the Montgomery County Police major crimes weekly summary for the downtown Silver Spring area, residential and commercial burglaries dominate the report. The crime report for the week of July 11 to July 19 is as follows: 

  • East West Highway and 16th Street: An attempted armed robbery occurred on this block Saturday, July 16 at 3:36 a.m. The suspects displayed a weapon and unsuccessfully attempted to obtain property.
  • 800 Thayer Avenue: A residential burglary occurred on this block Wednesday, July 13 at 7:00 p.m. There wasn't a forced entry and property was taken.
  • 1200 Blair Mill Road: A residential burglary occurred on this block Sunday, July 17, between 9:36 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. There was a forced entry and property was taken.
  • The Side Bar, 8081 Georgia Avenue: A commercial burglary occurred at this restaurant, between 3:00 a.m. Saturday, July 16 and 9:54 a.m on Tuesday, July 19. There was a forced entry, but nothing was taken.
  • 100 Indian Spring Drive: A residential burglary occurred in this block on Sunday, July 17 at 10:41 p.m. 
  • Zeds Cleaner, 8225 Georgia Avenue: A commercial burglary occurred between 11:00 p.m. Thursday, July 14 and 7:15 a.m. Friday, July 15. There was a forced entry and property was taken.
  • Nine vehicle thefts occurred on the following streets including: Lytonsville Road, Dale Drive, Haywood Circle, Sanford Road, Hollow Glen Place, Rosensteel Avenue, Evans Drive and Darcy Forest Drive. The incidents occurred between Monday, July 11 and Monday, July 18, during the late evening to early morning hours.  Eight of the vehicles had their doors left unlocked. The items stolen included GPS systems, computers, cash, and personal documents were taken.
  • Piney Branch Road and Flower Avenue: A robbery occurred in this area on Sunday, July 17 at 2:30 a.m. The suspects assaulted the victim and obtained property.
  • Safeway, 116 University Boulevard West: A commercial robbery occurred in this area on Friday, July 15 at 10:22 p.m. The suspects threatened the victim with a weapon and obtained property.
