Police Blotter: Summary of Crimes the Week of March 28 to April 6

Robberies and aggravated assaults were a major part of police duty.

In the Montgomery County Police major crimes weekly summary for the downtown Silver Spring area, robberies and aggravated assaults dominate the report. The crime report for the week of March 28 to April 6 is as follows: 

  • In downtown Silver Spring the crime activity varied in the Patch crime summaries map.
  • Georgia Avenue and Blair Mill Road: A robbery occurred in this area on Thursday, March 31 at 2:30 p.m. The suspects approached the adult male victim, pushed him against a wall, searched his pockets and removed cash before fleeing on foot. An officer in the area observed the suspects fleeing the scene and pursued them. All three suspects were arrested and identified by the victim.
  • 8700 Georgia Avenue: A robbery occurred in this block on Tuesday, March 29 at 3:45 p.m. The suspects approached the juvenile male victims from behind and asked to use a cell phone. When they refused, the first victim was grabbed and a camcorder taken from his pocket; the second victim was assaulted and knocked on the ground.The suspects fled on foot after the incident.
  • Colesville Road and Second Avenue: An aggravated assault occurred in this area on Sunday, April 3 at 8:38 p.m. A 17 year old male suffered severe head and leg injuries after he was assaulted with a bat by a group of unknown suspects. Investigators believe that this assault may have been gang related.
  • Near the Days Inn on 8040 13th Street: Two aggravated assaults occurred in related incidents in this area. In the first incident an adult male was shot in the arm by a BB gun while working in the area of Kennett Street and 13th Street on Tuesday, March 29 at 6:40 p.m. The victim advised he heard several shots bounce off of the building.  The victim’s injuries were minor. In the second incident, on Monday, April 4 at 7:20 p.m., an adult male was shot (BB gun) in the shoulder in front of his hotel room. Investigators believe that the shots came from a nearby high rise apartment building in both incidents.
  • 800 Thayer Avenue: A residential burglary: occurred in this block on Tuesday, March 29 between 1:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. The suspect(s) used unknown means to enter and removed property.
