Police Blotter: Summary of Crimes the Week of March 7 to March 15

Residential burglaries and thefts from vehicles were a major part of police duty in downtown Silver Spring.

In the Montgomery County Police major crimes weekly summary for the downtown Silver Spring area, thefts from vehicles and residential burglaries dominate the report. The crime report for the week of March 7 - March 15 is as follows: 

  • In downtown Silver Spring the crime activity varied in the Patch crime summaries map.
  • Hilton Hotel parking lots at 8727 and 8728 Colesville Road: Thefts from Vehicles occurred between 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 8 and 9:39 p.m. on Wednesday, Mar. 9. In all of the incidents, it appears as if the vehicles doors were left unlocked.  Toys, a GPS system and a wallet were taken in the incidents.
  • 800 Malibu Drive: An attempted residential burglary occurred in this block between 8:00 a.m. and 2:20 p.m. on Monday March 7. There was an attempted forced entry but none was gained.
  • 8555 Piney Branch Road: An attempted robbery/aggravated assault occurred in a rear parking lot of the Eastern Carryout on Friday Mar.11 at 9:00 p.m. The suspect approached the adult male victim and demanded money. When the victim didn’t have cash, the suspect stabbed him with a knife. The suspect was located and arrested.
  • 9100 Linton Street: A residential burglary occurred in this block on Wednesday, Mar. 9 between 7:40 a.m. and 8:40 p.m. in the in Silver Spring. There was an unknown type entry and property was taken. 
  • 9100 Piney Branch Road: A residential burglary occurred on Thursday, Mar. 10 in this bock. There was a forced entry and it was unknown if property was taken.
  • 9200 Compton Street: A residential burglary occurred on Monday, Mar. 14 between 5:30 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. in this block. There wasn’t a forced entry and property was taken.  
  • 300 University Blvd. W: A residential burglary occurred in this block between 7:30 a.m. and 11:35 a.m. on Saturday Mar. 12.  There was unknown type entry and property was taken.
  • 8700 Piney Branch Road: A strong-arm robbery/assault occurred in the parking lot of the Long Branch Recreation Center on Tuesday, Mar. 8 at 6:56 p.m. The victim was assaulted and property was taken.
