Police Blotter: Summary of Crimes the Week of May 9 to May 18

Residential burglaries were a major part of police duty.

In the Montgomery County Police major crimes weekly summary for the downtown Silver Spring area robberies and residential burglaries dominate the report. The crime report for the week of May 9to May 18 is as follows: 

  • In downtown Silver Spring the crime activity varied in the Patch crime summaries map. Scroll your mouse over the bubble to read the crime.
  • Bonifant Street and Cedar Street: An attempted armed robbery occurred in this area on Wednesday, May 11 at 10:13 p.m. The suspects threatened the victim with a weapon and attempted to remove property. Nothing was obtained.
  • 800 Gist Avenue: A residential burglary occurred in this area on Monday, May 16 at 12:59 p.m. There was an unknown means of entry and it was unknown whether anything was taken.

  • 500 E. Melbourne Avenue: An aggravated assault occurred in this area on Saturday, May 14 at 10:40 p.m. Officers responded to the sounds of shots were fired upon by the occupant. The suspect was arrested after a four hour standoff. No one was injured during the incident.

  • 700 Lanark Way: A residential burglary occurred in this area on Friday, May 16 at 9:33 p.m.  There was an unknown mean of entry and it was unknown whether anything was taken.

  • 1200 Noyes Drive: A residential burglary occurred in this area on Monday, May 9 between 12.00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. There was an unknown means of entry and property taken.

  • 8800 Colesville Road: A residential burglary occurred in the , Silver Spring between Tuesday, May 10 and Friday, May 13. It was unknown if entry was gained but property taken.

  • 1300 Highland Drive: A residential burglary occurred in this area on Wednesday, May 11 at 12:45 p.m. It was unknown if entry was gained but was  property taken.

  • Spring Beer & Wine located it at 8645 16th Street: A commercial burglary occurred in this area on Saturday, May 14 at 4:34 a.m. There was an  unknown entry and it was unknown if anything was taken.
  • Piney Branch Road & University Boulevard: A strong-arm robbery occurred in the area on Friday, May 16 at 2:44 a.m.  The suspects approached the adult male victim, assaulted him and removed his property.  

  • 8700 Arliss Street: An aggravated assault occurred in this area on Wednesday, May 11 at 9:38 p.m.  The victim was threatened with a weapon by a known suspect.
  • 8700 Reading Road: A residential burglary occurred in this area on Monday, May 16 between 3:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. in the , Silver Spring.  The entry was unknown and property taken.
  • 8900 Whitney Street: A residential burglary occurred on this block on Friday, 5/13 between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. There was a forced entry and nothing taken.

  • 1200 Prospect Street: A residential burglary occurred in this area on Friday, May 13 between 1:15 p.m. and 4:14 p.m. There was a forced entry and property taken.
