Update: Police Charge Man in Tuesday's Silver Spring Stabbing

Police have charged the suspect they brought into custody Tuesday.

 

Update, July 4: Hugo Rodriguez, of South Hampton Drive in Silver Spring, has been charged in the first-degree murder of Thomas Harvey, 35, of an unconfirmed address, according to a Montgomery County police statement.

Rodriguez, 38, is being held without bond, and is scheduled for bond review on July 5, at 1 p.m. in Rockville.

Police responded to a call about a stabbing in an apartment at 8060 13th Street, Silver Spring, at about 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday. In the apartment, they found Harvey suffering from stab wounds.

Multiple witnesses told police they saw Rodriguez fleeing the scene with a knife.

"A lookout was placed and officers stopped Rodriguez nearby on foot. The knife was recovered in a storm drain a short distance away from where Rodriguez was detained. Harvey ... was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries," according to the police statement.

Harvey and Rodriguez knew one another, police detectives learned. According to police, the dispute in which Harvey and Rodriguez were involved escalated into a physical altercation in which each man was armed with a knife, and which resulted in Rodriguez stabbing Harvey with a knife.

Additional details regarding the investigation cannot be released at this time, police added.

Original Post, July 3: Montgomery County Police (MCP) say one man is dead after an altercation Tuesday in Silver Spring.

"A [male] suspect is in custody. We've recovered the weapon," MCP spokeswoman Rebecca Innocenti said.

Police were dispatched to the 8000 block of 13th Street in Silver Spring around 2:29 p.m., Innocenti added.

No other details were available.
