Police Say Rockville Man Tried to Rape Woman with Disabilities in Silver Spring Woods

The victim was a patient of a support facility for people with cognitive and physical disabilities in the Calverton neighborhood of Silver Spring, police said. The suspect is a convicted sex offender.

A 55-year-old Rockville man has been charged with second-degree sexual assault in the attempted rape of a woman with mental disabilities in a wooded area in the Calverton area of Silver Spring, police report.

The victim is a patient of Rock Creek Foundation, a support facility for people with physical and cognitive disabilities in the 12100 block of Plum Orchard Drive, police said.

Police said the victim accused a man of walking with her to a wooded area near the foundation on Wednesday, July 25, at 10 a.m. where he “fondled the victim and attempted to have sexual intercourse with her,” according to a report from police.

The woman escaped and reported it to an employee of the foundation, police said. 

Police charged Noel Miles, a registered sex offender, in the case. He was released from jail on July 27 after posting bond, court records show.
