Police Seek Person of Interest in Silver Spring Rape Case

Police would like to interview the woman in the surveillance video.

Police released a video on Tuesday of a person of interest in a Friday, Dec. 13, rape case on Garland Avenue in Silver Spring.

At about 10:45 p.m. Friday, a woman stepped outside her apartment building in the 8300 Garland Avenue to place trash in a garbage can. She was grabbed from behind, forced to the ground and pulled to a concealed area, where the suspect—who wore a ski mask and carried a weapon—raped the woman, police said in a statement.

The suspect fled on foot and the victim went to a nearby home for help. Police officers were not able to locate the suspect.

Investigation has led detectives to a retail store, where the person of interest—a woman—made a purchase. Video surveillance shows the woman exiting the store and entering a vehicle. Investigators would like to talk with the woman about the case.
