Police Release Video of Storage Space Robbers in Silver Spring Area

Two men pretended to be customers at Public Storage in White Oak before duct-taping and robbing an employee.

Montgomery County Police are looking for two men they think went on a public storage robbery spree, hitting locations in the Silver Spring neighborhood of White Oak and in Laurel.

Police said the suspects pretended to be customers when they entered Public Storage at 10717 Hillwood Drive on Wednesday, Aug. 19. When an employee began to collect storage rental info for the men, one of the suspects ran behind the counter, pulled out a knife and demanded money before pulling the phone cord from the wall, police report.

The men ended up with money from the business and some of the worker's belongings, including a wallet, before tying the man's hands and feet and leaving. The employee was able to untie the bonds and call the police, who arrived just before 5 p.m. that day.

Police think the same men may have been behind the armed robbery of a Public Storage location in Laurel the same day, a crime that is being investigated by Prince George's County Police.
